THE AMBASSADOR “Home of the World Famous Cocoanut Grove” and DILLON’S COPPER SKILLET “Coffee Shop of the Stars” – Hollywood, Calif
. Condition is "Used".
Glass ashtray from the world famous Los Angeles Ambassador Hotel and Coconut Grove.3400 Wilshire Blvd. The hotel opened on January 1, 1921, and was torn down in2006. Rare Vintage Ambassador Hotel Ash Tray, "Home Of The World Famous Cocoanut Grove" Night Club Likely from the 40's based on the spelling of Cocoanut as opposed to Coconut. The Cocoanut Grove was LA's premier night club for decades, hosting 6 Oscar ceremonies and every U.S. president from Hoover to Nixon. Prominent figures such as Frank Sinatra, Bing Crosby, John Wayne,Lucille Ball, Marilyn Monroe, and The Supremes were the many entertainers that attended the Cocoanut Grove. The Ambassador Hotel was also the site of the tragic assassination of Robert F. Kennedy. Every entertainer of note played the Coconut Grove, from Frank Sinatra to Dizzy Gillespie to Judy Garland and Barbara Streisand. Frequent guests were Charlie Chaplin, John Wayne, Howard Hughes, etc. It is in beautiful condition.

A nice little piece of Los Angeles history. A great addition to any collection.
Dillon's Copper Skillet "Coffee Shop of the Stars" in Hollywood, California vintage glass ashtray! This neat little spot has now succumbed to a chain restaurant. Their doors were open in the 40's and 50's during the golden age of Hollywood, and shut sometime in the 70's. If only this ashtray could divulge just whose cigarettes were extinguished in it! Since this restaurant has been closed for some time now, their items are collectible and an ashtray is hard to find.
