The Perth Mint proudly introduces the ninth addition to the 12-coin series, the Australian Perth Mint Series II Lunar Gold 1/2 Ounce 2016 Monkey! The Australian Lunar Series II is a follow-up series from Lunar Series I, that was in production from 1996-2007. The Perth Mint honors the Chinese zodiac calendar by minting a coin representative of that animal's year, in gold and silver. Compared to its sister series, the Gold Lunar Series coin contain very low mintages, barely lasting in any inventory. The Perth Mint immaculately mints these coins in brilliant uncirculated condition but adds a proof-like finish to the animals depicted, also adding dimension to the coin. This incredible finish is protected by an original mint-state capsule.
Everyone's favorite part of this series, the reverse reveals a lone monkey sitting on a branch of a peach tree. With one peach delicately dangling from its grasp, the peach tree also represents longevity and immortality. "Year of the Monkey," and the Chinese symbol are also etched on the reverse to complete the significance. The obverse displays a famous portrait, by Ian Rank-Broadley, of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, sitting in a side pose.
